Rationalising re-zoning policies
Sustainable use of land depends on rational re-zoning policies. I am in favour of implementing the Kenny Report's recommendation on land use rezoning. Specifically I would like to see much of the difference in value between land zoned for agriculture, for example, and what it would be worth were it re-zoned for commercial or residential use passing to the State for the benefit of the whole community. I also believe we need a new National Spatial Strategy and the relevant re-zoning privileges of local authority's should be subjugated to such a strategy.
