Making Ireland Fairer

Adequately sized apartments

I have a lot of recent experience of comparing planning applications with the provisions of the Development Plans. Development Plans such as the Dublin City Development Plan 2005-2011 specify, among many other matters, the minimum sizes of apartments, particular kinds of rooms within those apartments and the private open space available to future residents. Time and time again these minimum provisions are not adhered to in applications. Recently I have even discovered instances - in the Player Wills application on Dublin's South Circular Road, for example - in which grants of planning permission are made for proposals which directly contravene the provisions of Dublin City Development Plan. In such instances, I do my best to alert An Bord Pleanála and use the media and other outlets to bring pressure to bear in the appropriate quarters. I shall continue in this work as your Senator.
