For a Fairer Ireland
Please vote No. 1 Stephen Douglas
I'm standing for one of the three TCD/DIT spaces in the Seanad. I'm standing because I want a fairer Ireland.
Some have said I'm too young. I'm just a lawyer who happens to work in Leinster House, maybe I don't have the experience to do the job.
And in some ways they're right. I am only 35. I have only worked here in Leinster House for a few years.
But I believe if you've got the right ideas in your head. If you have that passion for fairness in your heart, then you should go for it. And that's why I'm doing it.
Others have said they don't like long laundry lists of policies. But what, we're entitled to ask, would they actually do for the next five years, if we were to elect them?
I believe you are entitled to know what your Senators will do if you vote them in. And that is why inside the policy section, I'll lay out clearly what I'll do to bring about my vision of a fairer Ireland.
And that is also why I lay out clearly here what exactly I will be doing as your full-time Senator to advance these priority policies on a day-to-day basis
Other candidates think being a Senator's a birth-right. Some even think it is a part-time job.
Well, it used to be. Back in the twentieth century.
But why would anyone actually vote for the past today?
My benchmark for what a hard working and imaginative University Senator can achieve is Mary Robinson. I cannot promise to be better than she was as our TCD/DIT Senator. But I can promise to work harder than all of the other candidates. And if you give me your No. 1 vote you will have done all you can to ensure that at least one of our University Senators will take a long enough break from their lunches, their gossiping or their other jobs to do what they are elected to do: to make legislation better.
If you give me your No. 1 vote, as your Senator I will make Ireland fairer by:
Reducing Ireland’s reliance on fossil fuels
Securing best practice in the planning process
If you cannot give me your No. 1, please give me your No. 2 or your highest possible preference.
Stephen Douglas
